We see many trusts wanting to stand in solidarity with us in partnership and joint endeavour, bound by shared values.
The traditional power dynamics of philanthropy are slowly fading out. Trusts and foundations increasingly want to use their investments to create a more equitable society and change the systems that that threaten the health of people and planet. Trusts and foundations choose Global Action Plan to help bring about the changes they want to see in the world.

Playing to our collective strengths
Overconsumption is driving the climate and nature crisis—and harming young people’s mental health. Many children see over 1,200 ads daily on social media, fuelling pressure to buy and disconnecting them from what really matters.
With three years’ funding from Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, Global Action Plan supported 14–16-year-olds to lead the Stop Following Me campaign, calling for a ban on surveillance ads targeting under-18s.
The group created their own demands, film , visuals, and letters to MPs and retailers, exposing manipulative algorithms that track and pressure young people into overconsumption.
80% gained knowledge on how to campaign (up from 21%), and 60% felt confident doing so (up from 31%). They contacted 54 MPs, securing meetings and an invitation to speak at the Select Committee on Mental Health.
Campaigners began a dialogue with brands like Air Up and Ikea, and its film was shown to 90 global brands at the World Federation of Advertisers’ 2024 conference.
“The experience has taught me lots about how to address issues that I care about, including who to speak to, and actions that should be taken.” – Young creator from the ‘Stop Following Me’ campaign (2024)
Air pollution remains a serious environmental justice issue in the UK. To tackle a key root cause — lack of citizen power — we elevate “new voices” from communities most affected to push for solutions.
With over a decade of support from Trust for London, we’ve helped hundreds of citizen-led groups from marginalised areas campaign for climate action and cleaner air. Wins include councils declaring climate emergencies, hosting citizens’ assemblies, expanding electric vehicle charging, and strengthening air quality plans. Global Action Plan has helped individuals like Destiny Boka Batesta from Choked Up share lived experiences in Parliament.
Most recently, eight campaigners supported by Global Action Plan promoted their own manifesto asks as “clean air voices” in the 2024 London Mayoral Elections, through direct engagement with candidates and public hustings.
“Global Action Plan has high impact connections to really help raise marginalised voices.”
Love Ssega, Clean Air New Voice, South London
I was encouraged by how far Global Action Plan was able to get with involving “New Voices” with political activism around air quality, including speaking at the Labour Party Conference and the Citizens UK London Mayoral hustings. The New Voices are Londoners from communities who are less commonly heard in environmental debates, but who are disproportionately affected by poor air quality.
