Climate vs. Big Tech
Our Climate vs Big Tech campaign mobilises civil society groups and businesses to demand regulation of the toxic online information ecosystem that spreads climate misinformation and chills climate policy.
Global Action Plan is the only established climate charity in the UK with a well-developed work programme on, expertise in and insight into the online ecosystem and the threat it poses. Our vision is of a safe, well regulated, low carbon online environment that fosters free speech and debate within the law.
By 2030, we want to see measures in place that disrupt Big Tech’s extractive business model and enable fairer, low carbon digital systems.
We are supported by a Board of sustainability experts, academics, entrepreneurs and campaigners who are passionate about seizing this historic opportunity to achieve clean power in the UK. We are core member of the Climate Action Against Disinformation coalition.
Take Action
The public supports urgent climate action - MPs must not give in to climate lies. Join the campaign.
To build awareness of the threat an unregulated online world has on climate action, we've co–authored two reports:
Our AI threats to climate change report, co-authored with the Climate Action Against Disinformation coalition, maps the risks that AI poses to the climate crisis.
Our Big Tech's Dirty secret report, co-authored with barrister and digital rights expert Susie Alegre, outlines how the core business model of Big Tech companies is one of the biggest obstacles to climate action.
In the long term, Global Action Plan's aim is to achieve regulatory reform of online platforms such that they are forced to reorientate their business models away from the monetisation of hatred, division and disinformation.
