She/Her

Driving meaningful change through research, impact, and lived experience

Ali joined Global Action Plan in 2025 as Head of Impact, Insights and Development, before taking up the role of Director of Research and Development in November 2026. Bringing over 23 years of experience across the non-profit, higher education, and public sectors, Ali is an insight-driven leader passionate about using evidence, creativity, and collaboration to shape strategies for radical positive change.

With a PhD in Social Policy, Ali has led large, multi-disciplinary research projects exploring philanthropy for social change, voluntary action, active citizenship, and children’s and young people’s participation. She is the author of several books, including Children as Change Makers: Unlocking Children’s Real Philanthropic Power, and has published widely in academic journals and media outlets.

As Director of Research and Development, Ali oversees the charity’s research, impact, and fundraising strategy - ensuring that insights from Global Action Plan’s programmes are robust, creative, and grounded in lived experience. She leads efforts to translate research into compelling stories that inform campaigns, influence policy, and inspire new partnerships and funding relationships, driving the charity’s growth and long-term impact.

Beyond Global Action Plan, Ali is the founder of Led by the Wild, a community organisation that connects people with nature through conservation, environmental education, and rural heritage projects. She is a firm believer in the power of community organising, social action, and climate justice.

Outside of work, Ali enjoys being outdoors, horse-riding, and working towards self-sufficient living.

I returned to the charitable sector because research alone isn’t enough—real change happens when communities challenge the systems that hold them back. I believe in the power of grassroots action to reshape our world, not just by working within existing structures, but by reimagining them entirely. Change isn’t something handed down; it’s something built from the ground up, driven by those with the most at stake.
