Flickers of the Future: The story so far...

An expert panel of 25 environmentalists, Film and TV industry insiders, academics, and business leaders, is formed to guide and shape the Flickers of the Future project, including Richard Curtis CBE as the Patron.

360 young film makers attend workshops (180 in person and 180 online) summarising key insights and knowledge to help them create credible visions of sustainable futures.

102 young film makers enter the Flickers of the Future competition.

36 short listed film makers attend an Inspiration session to help them develop their creative ideas. Talks are provided by film and TV experts, environmentalists and story tellers, including Richard Curtis, film director Kevin McDonald and Professor of sustainable development, Tim Jackson.

5 short listed film makers are chosen and begin being mentored by a professional team of scriptwriters and TV production experts.

A study commissioned by Global Action Plan provides insight into what the next generation of eco-conscious young audiences want to see on screen.
77% of 16-34 year olds in the UK would like to see environmental issues included in drama programmes on TV more than they currently are.

The webinar 'Making A Drama Out Of A Crisis,’ hosted by the Royal Television Society and Global Action Plan is aired. The online session is headlined by Richard Curtis CBE and showcases the 5 shortlisted filmmakers. Supported by albert, the authority on environmental sustainability for film + TV from BAFTA, the event calls for the UK industry to reflect on how it can support young creative voices to be heard as part of a fresh restart for the world of TV, as well as for the planet.

The final three Flickers of the Future winners are chosen and continue their mentorship in preparation to pitch to major broadcasters.

Global Action Plan partner with MTV to inspire millions of young people on what a brighter sustainable future might look like.

Global Action Plan launch a new Instagram channel #FlickersoftheFuture, which uses creativity to help us imagine a more sustainable future. The Instagram channel combines the science and expertise in future visioning from the environmental sector, with the fresh, creative talent of artists and designers.

Global Action Plan and MTV launch their campaign to inspire millions of young people with a more sustainable future. On MTV Breaks, the 3 Flickers winners share their ideas featuring a more positive and sustainable future with the millions of MTV followers. The idea which the MTV audience engages with the most will be made into a short animation and shared across the MTV channels.
