In 2025-26, Global Action Plan worked with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, with funding from Glasgow City Council’s LEZ Community Support Fund, to take clean air action across the region, benefitting staff, patients and the public.
Thank you for coming along to our trainer meeting.
Really thought-provoking presentation with suggestions for change that we can take into our teaching and practices.

Global Action Plan have been championing clean air with the healthcare sector in the UK for over 10 years.
Healthcare organisations, their leaders and their staff, can be role models in their operations, showing leadership through minimising the air pollution they create and influence.
As trusted messengers in society, health professionals can also educate and inform staff, patients and the public about the health risks of air pollution and how to protect their health.
Hospitals and health professions can play vital roles as advocates for action to clean the air.

Clean Air Ambassadors recruited for the Glasgow region
Global Action Plan supported NHS GGC to use the Clean Air Hospital Framework and develop a Clean Air Action Plan for Glasgow’s 2 biggest hospitals, improving knowledge, skills and agency to help drive forward clean air action.
We delivered eleven education sessions for a broad range of health professionals, raising awareness of the health impacts of air pollution and how to have conversations with patients. We provided health professionals with access to a variety of resources, including training videos, leaflets and digital information (via the Clean Air Hub). And we recruited 3 Glasgow-based health professionals as ‘Clean Air Ambassadors’. We continue to support them with chosen clean air activities including advocacy, educating patients, the public and decision makers.
The Clean Air project has highlighted priority areas where NHSGGC can contribute to improved air quality at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The clean air framework sets out clear, actionable measures for the short term, alongside longer-term recommendations that will inform future strategy.
