Do you know a Community or Voluntary Sector organisation who could be a Trailblazing organisation of the Year?

The Sustainable City Awards are looking for community or voluntary sector organisations in London which have turned the COVID-19 crisis into an opportunity to build back better, showing resilience and impact in taking action to make sustainable ways of life a reality.

The focus of the awards will be on celebrating where organisations and individuals have created brand new initiatives (rather than accessing existing solutions) to benefit people and planet.

Who can be nominated for the voluntary and community sector - trailblazing organisation of the year

All voluntary and community sector organisations benefitting Londoners are eligible to apply (including Voluntary organisations, Community groups, Tenants and residents groups, Faith groups, Housing Associations, Co-operatives and social enterprises (provided profits are retained for the benefit of the members or community served),  and non profit making sports organisations).

Nominated organisations do not need to be based in London, but the activities they are being nominated for need to principally benefit Londoners and London’s environment. Activities could be London-wide or focused on a particular neighbourhood or area.

Groups need to be constituted in order to be eligible for a Sustainable City Award.

Improved the way we live by taking action now to make sustainable ways of life a reality

We are looking for nominations of groups or organisations that have demonstrated resilience, imagination and ambition in order to deliver measurable impacts for Londoners, as well as London’s/the global environment.

Engaged with and inspired others to spark collective action

A VCS group/organisation that has worked collaboratively with beneficiaries, partners or funders to inspire them to act collectively towards a common goal.

Involved under-represented groups or less engaged communities in creating their vision and/or taking action

An organisation that has actively listened to and sought to increase the involvement of under-represented groups or less engaged community members in decision-making and delivery

Individual Changemaker of the Year, 2020 - community or voluntary sector (in memory of Samantha Heath)

The awards will also celebrate London’s unsung heroes by seeking the Individual Changemaker of the Year – celebrating individuals who have demonstrated impact within a particular community or place by thinking big and coming up with new, innovative solutions that meet the community’s needs.

We’re looking for Changemakers who have engaged with and inspired other organisations, communities or individuals to spark collective action, and where possible, successfully involved under-represented communities.

Winners will be recognised at a virtual learning and award ceremony in Spring 2021, and offered a year of support to access networking, collaboration and learning opportunities through Global Action Plan’s networks. We will be especially looking to celebrate and broadcast the many great examples of action led or co-led by culturally diverse and under-privileged communities to advance racial, social and environmental justice.

This award is celebrated in memory of Samantha Heath, former Chief-Executive of London Sustainability Exchange, coordinators of these awards until 2019.
