Meet our new Trustees

This Volunteer’s Week, we’re delighted to share the news that we have a new group of minds and voices joining our existing board to volunteer their time and expertise as Global Action Plan Trustees.

We would like to take this opportunity to show our huge appreciation for the ongoing passion and energy of Jeremy Oppenheim, Jonathan Katz, Andy Cartland, Jennette Arnold OBE, Sue Welland and Tom Rippin. It is wonderful to have a group of committed and supportive trustees to steer our course. 

The five new Trustees bringing their experience and perspectives to help shape Global Action Plan’s work are: 

Professor Frank Kelly – Strategy - Air Pollution 

Professor Frank Kelly PhD, FKC, FRSB, FRSC, FMedSci, holds the inaugural Humphrey Battcock Chair in Community Health and Policy, within the School of Public Health in a new global centre of air pollution research at Imperial College, London

He previously served as Chair of Environmental Health at King's College London. Frank oversees substantial research activity which spans all aspects of air pollution research from toxicology through to science policy. 

He has led studies on the urban airshed within London, including the impact of the introduction of London’s Congestion Charging Zone and the Ultra Low Emission Zone. 

Advait Kuravi - Climate Justice Trustee 

Advait Kuravi is a passionate student activist. Advait spearheaded the formation of the Midlands Schools Sustainability Network and led his school’s Sustainability Society for 2 years. While he was working there as Student Lead he coordinated three Sustainability Awareness Weeks.  

Francisca Rockey  - Climate Justice Trustee 

Francisca Rockey is an award-winning geographer and campaigner who is regularly involved in social campaigns, and charity fundraising. She is also a writer and public speaker featured in mainstream and online media. 

 In April 2020, Francisca founded Black Geographers, an online community supporting the next generation of black geographers and geoscientists.  

The platform has grown to a community of 11k+ individuals and has collaborated with a wide range of organisations from Earth Minutes, Delta Simons, Esri UK, Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, Hudl Youth Development Agency, Natural Environment Research Council to Birmingham University, and The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG). 

Katie Hill - StrategyPost Consumerism 

Katie Hill is Executive Chair for B Lab Europe, the organisation responsible for rolling out the B Corporation movement across Europe.  

Having run a social enterprise in Bulgaria, Katie became interested in the mixed use of finance to support businesses make positive impact.  

She was Social Investment Advisor to the City of London Corporation, and set up Access Foundation, a sister organisation to Big Society Capital, before establishing B Lab UK, of which she was Executive Director. An economist by background, she advised the governments of Poland and Lithuania on their employment strategies. She represented a region of the UK in the EU, and was appointed on to the EU panel of experts on Social Business.  

Martyn Williams Advocacy and Campaigns 

Martyn Williams is a former political campaigner with 20 years’ experience with Friends of the Earth, Association for the Conservation of Energy, E3G, 10:10 (now Possible) and others.  

He has led campaigns for numerous new environmental laws including those that required doorstep recycling, tackled fuel poverty and the Climate Change Act 2008. 

We’d like to thank our outgoing Trustees; Murray Birt, Lisa Poole, Tim Brooks and Clover Hogan for their commitment, time and hard work over the past few years.

We’re pleased to welcome our new Trustees and are grateful to them and the rest of our board for volunteering their time and expertise to guide our work.
