Transform Our World Youth Summit 2022
Hearing the authentic voices of young people is more important than we know; it’s the key to transforming our world.
In just under two weeks’ time, young people and organisations based all over the world will come together for the Transform Our World Youth Summit, discussing all things ‘power’ – Who holds it? Is power on our side? and much more. The summit is being held online, between the 7th and the 19th November 2022 and will have sessions for 4 year olds, all the way up to 18 year olds. This year, in contrast to previous years, the Youth Summit will focus on one key theme: power. In the past, we’ve looked at individual actions we can take for the planet, as well as themes like values, but for 2022, our Transform Our World Youth Ambassadors gave us some real insight into why power should be our focus this year. They explained that they feel as if they know things that they can do, and actions they can take, but the real barrier they have is not really knowing how to influence those in power and fully activate their own. It became clear that many of our youth ambassadors felt like this, as well as many of us adults working at Global Action Plan!
Often, when we first hear the word power, we think of those in government or CEOs of big companies. Or, maybe if we’re feeling a little more positive, we may think about the power of coming together for the greater good. Power is complex. It’s a really broad topic, and one that’s not as simple as being ‘bad’ or ‘good’. Across this Summit, we will hear from young people who will give their perspective on power, whether that be in the context of the power of nature or the power and pitfalls of social media for example.
One session that we’re really excited about is our session titled ‘The power of wider change.’ We all know society today has it’s flaws, and there are many things that we may want to change to make a better world for many communities and our environment. In this session we will hear from 9 young people who will give their perspectives on topics such as environmental racism, the education system, inequalities in relation to air pollution in cities and environmental degradation.
We’re really pleased that we’re able to host this Summit and give young people a real platform to tell us exactly what they care about and inspire others to harness their power for the good of people and planet.
