This year has seen the conclusion of the second phase of Transform Our World programme, funded by the #iwill fund, engaging over 69,000 young people in events, campaigns and project work, as well as creating a further 48,000 youth social action opportunities over England between June 2021 and December 2022.

Throughout this programme of work, young people and educators were supported to either start or continue on their sustainability journeys as individuals and schools.

Our Transform Our World Youth Engagement Officers worked directly with 47 schools across 6 regions of England, supporting young people in taking youth social action with a focus ranging from social justice and mental health to conservation, biodiversity loss and environmental campaigning.

This part of the programme, using the Global Action Plan’s Dirt Is Good principles to support young people’s learning, resulted in 65% of young people saying they now know what things they can do to help people and nature, and 64% of participants reflecting that they had an increased confidence in doing things to help people and nature.

‘’The children enjoyed it so much…They became much more independent, because the projects were all child-led, that meant that they were in charge of what they did and what they needed….I noticed an increased responsibility within my class for children... It also made me feel more confident as a teacher to do more child-led projects myself and to go outside of the curriculum, and to think about local and community projects.’’

We are delighted to announce that Transform Our World has been granted further funding by the #iwill fund, running from April 2023-August 2025. As part of this phase, Transform Our World will continue to work directly with young people, host its annual Youth Summit and offer a range of support for educators, including CPD sessions.

Celebrating Transformative Learning

On 27th June 2023, we hosted the latest in our series of free online events for teachers - Celebrating Transformative Learning, which was an interview with Dr Morgan Phillips (Head of Education and Youth Engagement at Global Action Plan) and  Professor Noah W. Sobe, who discussed transformative learning, what it is, their own experience of it, why it matters, and how it’s done.

This event has kick-started what will be a month of sharing stories from individuals across our networks, of their transformative learning experiences as learners or educators.  Throughout July 2023, we will be sharing these stories daily across the Global Action Plan  Twitter account, so please do follow this if you don’t already.
