Global Action Plan receives The National Lottery Community Fund support for Good Life Schools
Thanks to National Lottery players, Global Action Plan has received over £1.1m over three years from The National Lottery Community Fund, the largest community funder in the UK.
The funding will be used to support Good Life Schools, a student-led programme working with 11–18-year-olds to strengthen the relationship between schools and their local community to support a low-consumption, low carbon culture. Students will explore the impacts of high consumption, identify the pressures that this creates and develop a Good Life Charter for their school community, with the aim of creating a culture of positive environmental changemaking.
The project will run across 60 schools in Yorkshire, the Midlands, South Wales, and North East England, with the long-term aim to replicate at a national level, enabling communities across the UK to access and run the programme independently.
This grant comes from the Climate Action Fund, a £100 million commitment over 10 years from The National Lottery Community Fund to support communities across the UK to take action on climate change and involve more people in climate action. This forms part of one of the funder’s four key missions in its 2030 strategy, ‘It starts with community’ – supporting communities to be environmentally sustainable.

Over-consumption not only harms the health of our planet, but also has a detrimental impact on mental and physical wellbeing. We are delighted to be able to take our Good Life Schools project to more schools and communities across the UK, enabling them to tackle this root cause of the climate crisis by exploring and experiencing what it means to lead happier, lower-impact lives. Thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund, we will be building on the success of our pilot project in Hammersmith and Fulham in London, which saw five schools embrace this student-led changemaking programme.
The Good Life Schools project will launch at the start of the 2024-25 school year.
