Clean Air Day 2022 Celebration Report released
On 16 June, Clean Air Day saw over 300 events, 985 media mentions of Clean Air Day in broadcast news and print, #CleanAirDay trended at #1 on Twitter and more than 300 organisations now consider themselves Clean Air Day supporters.
The Clean Air Day Celebration Report presents the highlights from the campaign and also showcases what businesses, schools, community groups, charities, NHS organisations, universities and champions got up to on Clean Air Day 2022.
With a growing evidence base, this year’s theme focused on the whole-body health harms that air pollution causes or exacerbates for everyone, not just those who are vulnerable.
In line with this theme, the three main Clean Air Day asks were:
1) Talk to someone about the health harms of air pollution.
2) Walk those short distance trips and leave the car at home where you can.
3) Ask local and national decision makers for what would make it easier for you to walk more.
Data collected for the Clean Air Day Celebration Report reveals that, in accordance with the Talk-Walk- Ask format:
- Talk: People who know about the campaign increased their conversations about air pollution by 24% compared to just 6% of people who didn't know about Clean Air Day.
- Walk: People who know about Clean Air Day increased the short journeys they chose to walk by 37% compared to 27% of people who didn't know about the campaign.
- Ask: 62 MPs mentioned Clean Air Day on Twitter.
The report also discloses the campaign date for Clean Air Day next year – Thursday 15 June 2023.
Larissa Lockwood, Director of Clean Air says: “We are hugely appreciative to everyone who took part in Clean Air Day 2022 across the UK. Together, we have helped to improve public understanding about air pollution, something that is essential if we want to see clean air policy measures, such as Ella’s Law and Clean Air Zones come through. I look forward to doing it all over again with you next year.”
Sadiq Kahn, Mayor of London says: “Clean Air Day plays an essential role in raising awareness around the impacts of air pollution on our health. On behalf of all Londoners, thank you for your commitment to raising awareness around the impacts of air pollution and for organising another successful Clean Air Day.”
