Big Energy Race What was the Big Energy Race? Big Energy Race helped people to take control of their bills and cut their energy costs with the aim of getting the nation 'energy-fit.' Community groups from across England, Scotland and Wales signed up as teams to take part in the race when it launched in January 2015. They competed with other teams around the UK in a race to win points by promoting energy efficiency in their community. How did it work? Teams asked local households to take energy challenges, such as tracking their meter readings, turning down boiler thermostats, or turning off appliances. The more households each community group recruited and the more challenges they completed, the more points the whole team earned. *The Big Energy Race was an initiative designed by Global Action Plan and delivered in collaboration with the Energy Saving Trust, Citizens Advice Bureau and Energy UK. It was supported by major energy providers, including Npower, British Gas, EDF Energy and Green Energy.
