Become a Trustee

Global Action Plan have a passionate and high energy Board of Trustees who work with the Executive team to guide strategy and help us to deliver our mission as impactfully as we can.

 

In the words of our Chair, Jeremy Oppenheim, the GAP board is has a great team-spirit and is special place where we can look at the world through the eyes of the next generation and empower them to reshape it in line with their true values”.

 

Our last three year strategy saw us do two key things: (1) narrow our focus to environmental issues that linked the health of people and planet and (2) deepen our approach - developing campaigning and envisioning work alongside our collective action programmes. This has led to our staff team and income almost doubling and our impact much more so.  

 

2022-25 Strategy: We are looking for new trustees to help with our next stage of growth. Our next 3 year strategy will see us further decouple growth of our team/income with that of our impact.

 

As such we are looking for new trustees with expertise to help us in the following areas:

(1) Strengthening our representation of our key audiences (young people and those with least power/voice in current system)

(2) collaborative campaigning and influencing

(3) developing new funding streams to aid future growth and

(4) impact strategy on our major focus issues – consumerism and air pollution.

Culture:

Our climate and nature crisis is urgent - and diversity of thought is crucial to address it; there is no time on our Board for ego or bureaucratic point making exercises – just positive action. We keep the formalities and jargon to a minimum and Board meetings feel like a meeting of friends with deep levels of mutual respect. GAP has a strong commitment to diversity – we maintain gender and ethnicity targets and a ring fenced youth trustee position to ensure diverse input into our decision making.

 

Roles & requirements:

Each of our trustees has a specific role and works closely with the executive team to help us develop our strategy in this area. Trustees commit to a single three year term, sometimes staying for a 2nd term if we are meeting our diversity targets and there is unanimous support for reappointment. We have 6 meetings a year – 4x Quarterly Board Meetings (4-7pm on Mondays), an AGM & Dinner in December and a Strategy away day in March. All (apart from the dinner) can be joined online.
