Owen coordinated the global labour-civil society coalition Make Amazon Pay mobilising hundreds of groups to strike and protest in over 40 countries as part of global Black Friday days of action, helping building the power needed to hold Amazon accountable for the way it squeezes workers, communities and the planet.

He helped to found the London Renters’ Union which now brings together over 10,000 private tenants to fight for better housing. He led communications and public mobilisation for McStrike campaign that supported McDonald’s workers to organise into a union and strike for better pay, secure hours and their right to a union.

His campaigning helped secure lobbying transparency with financial disclosure at both the UK and EU; and he was the coordinator of a diverse coalition of groups that campaigned for community voices to be heard when major infrastructure planning decisions are taken. He successfully campaigned for a ban on the sale of illegal timber across the EU and has mentored forest civil society leaders in the Congo Basin. He’s also been a trustee of Debt Justice and The Corporate Justice Coalition.

Owen is now supporting communities to oppose hyperscale data centres and win better regulation of the industry.
