While the UN speaks Climate Squad acts! COP16 2010

While the UN speaks Climate Squad acts!

While environmental ministers meet at COP16 in Cancún, Climate Squad will be taking practical actions here in the UK to help cut carbon emissions. Find out more about how you could get involved.

COP16/Cancún: 29 November – 10 December 2010

Last year the world watched as speeches, campaigns and decisions were made at the COP15 climate talks in Copenhagen. The outcome of COP15 was, to say at least a disappointment. However it wasn’t the end.

It’s hard to believe but it’s nearly that time of year again and COP16 is almost upon us. The main difference will be the lack of media circus that accompanied the events in Copenhagen,

At the end of November the action moves to Cancún, Mexico. And while the suited and booted speak in conferences and meetings, we have a whole feast of actions for you to take part in to act on climate change! Read on to find out how you could become a part of our While the UN speaks Climate Squad acts campaign.

Pump It Up @ Home

Properly pumping up your car tyres can save 50-90kg of carbon per year. You can pester your parents or pump up your own car tyres to the correct levels.

To earn a UN Environmental Action Certificate, simply take a photo of yourself doing the deed at home or at a local gas station and we'll also enter you in to our competition to win a cash prize.

Operation Blackout – High Streets

Hundreds of high-street shops leave lights on throughout the night thinking that people go window shopping on cold, dark winter nights.  What they don't know is that as much capital can be gained or saved, just by switching these lights off at night.

You can undertake a high-street light audit notifying the businesses in question of how much carbon is being wasted.

We Need You!

We are looking for a wide range of carbon saving ideas – that can be turned into actions or events. They need to actively involve yong people over a short time-span, give them experience and be fun!

Think up carbon saving projects and then fill our survey with your Eureka! idea, which we could implement in 2011.  If your idea is chosen, we'll give you a cash prize to say thank you.

Green Advent Calendar

At Christmas time, it's tempting to let it all loose and live a life of un-sustainability. Don’t worry though we have a solution.

An advent calendar, with carbon saving solutions day-by-day. There may not be chocolate involved, but a warm glow inside your heart for saving carbon is guaranteed. Our advent calendar is coming soon.
