Small businesses use green tactics to fight the VAT rise
We’re helping Head Chef Hari Nagaraj at the Cinammon Club beat the VAT rise
Free support is available for small to medium-sized businesses in London to beat rising overhead costs and go green.
Offset the VAT rise
2011 is expected to be a tough year for small businesses, not least because of this month’s VAT rise.
But Global Action Plan is helping small businesses fight back by going green. And for businesses in London boroughs with fewer than 250 employees – it’s free.
Westminster-based restaurant The Cinnamon Club has been working hard to reduce their impact on the environment. But they knew they had a problem with their electricity costs and asked us to come in and see where they could improve.
Huge savings
Our first eco-audit of the restaurant showed that their electricity consumption was nearly four times the industry benchmark for a business of that size.
With just a few simple measures such as turning off computers and drinks fridges when not in use, and installing LED lights, the restaurant could save up to £797 per year.
We also advised KMR Audio, a Barnet-based supplier of studio equipment. We showed them how to put easy measures in place that reduced their paper use by a massive 40%. They also made recommendations that will reduce their energy bills by 22%.
Even if just a small proportion of the customers we deal with chose KMR for its environmental stance, it would have quite a serious impact on our revenue. Keith Malin, Managing Director at KMR Audio.
