London schools save with Thames Water
A workshop in action at Peatmoor Primary School
Thames Water’s support for the Sustainable Schools framework and Eco-Schools inspired a programme that will help 60 schools across London save more than 900,000 litres per year.
Learning and saving
Aware that technological fixes alone rarely work, Thames Water designed a programme with two complementary parts. They would retrofit schools with water-saving equipment. They would run an educational programme alongside that encouraged students and staff to save water.
Our long track record of working with schools made us a natural partner for the educational and behaviour change element.
Support for schools
Thames Water’s generous support enabled our trainers to work with students and staff through interactive workshops, games and activities. The workshops helped the school community understand why they should conserve water. Most importantly, we showed them how they could encourage their friends and colleagues to save water at school and at home.
Thank you so much for coming in… The children have really taken to the project and are keen to get into the other classes and do some teaching. Sam Steele, Albion Primary School.
Global Action Plan doubled the initial recruitment target, visiting 60 schools and delivering more than 120 water-saving workshops. We’ve recruited schools across London and surrounds, from Harringay to Kingston, Swindon to Southwark.
- Schools have made changes that will save an average of 900,000 litres per year
- Coldfall Primary School was a standout, saving 3,249,895 litres
