Renewable Energy for Devon (RE4D), a scheme run by Devon County Council (DCC) has won a top prize in a prestigious South West Green Energy Awards ceremony.

Devon Council has been recognised as the Most Pro-active Local Authority thanks to the work of RE4D and its other activities to reduce carbon emissions. RE4D increases the demand for and deployment of smaller scale renewable energy installations while assisting SMEs and communities to reduce their energy costs.

The awards, organised by Regen South West, showcase the best in technologies and projects which harness the power of renewable energy sources. This includes the work of local authorities, community groups, individuals and renewable energy companies.

Environmental charity Global Action Plan is one of the partners of RE4D. CEO, Trewin Restorick, said;

RE4D has a significant impact on the individuals and organisations it helps and it’s fantastic for our work to be recognised with this award.

Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Strategic Planning, William Mumford said;

We are committed to promoting and developing the use of environmental technologies as well as stimulating the market for these types of technologies. This kind of work is assisting economic growth and productivity of Devon's businesses as well as meeting our commitments relating to carbon emissions and climate change.

Earlier this year, RE4D was the winner of a national Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy, recognising how Devon is leading the way nationally with this project
