E.ON deployed Environmental Champions in Hungary, Italy, Germany, America and in the international divisional offices in the UK.

Recognising the need for local help to implement behaviour change initiatives in different countries and cultures, we recruited experts in each country through the our international network.

Local Global Action Plan delivery partners were essential in making the programme successful, from translating materials, liaising with local E.ON project coordinators, to running training in the local language.

Cutting costs through employee engagement

  • Total savings of € 700,000
  • € 23,000 of savings for every location that took part
  • 10,000 E.ON employees reached worldwide

In total the actions achieved by E.ON’s Environment Champions have the potential to save over 444 tonnes of CO2 each year.

An international environmental network

The employee engagement programme has led to an international network of team leaders throughout E.ON who are able to run teams to enthuse and motivate colleagues to improve their environmental behaviour.

With differences in culture and situation, resources were created that were flexible enough to be adapted to each country and to enable staff to deliver local improvements.

Good, clear communications to share resources and communication ideas ensured that best practice was pooled and made the programme even more cost effective.

Cost saving communications

Technology was adopted to further reduce costs and environmental impacts. Video conferencing was used to allow regular communications across sites without the need for unnecessary travel, staff travel time and expensive travel costs.

As a result the success of the employee engagement programme, we are is working with E.ON on another international programme where employee volunteers run similar communications-led initiatives in local schools.
