New EcoTeams initiatives launch across London
EcoTeams are groups of people who come together to explore actions they can take collectively to reduce their household's impact on the environment.
The EcoTeams initiative has been compared to the Weight Watchers programme by journalists, because team members weigh their rubbish on a regular basis, with the aim of reducing the weight of rubbish thrown away over the 5 month programme.
The Global Action Plan Community Team has a number of EcoTeams projects coming up in London. If any readers have friends or relatives living in the London Boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Haringey, Waltham Forest or the City of London who might be interested in volunteering to become an EcoTeam team leader or team member please contact Ann Morris (0207 841 5161)
In addition to reducing environmental impacts, EcoTeam members benefit in a number of ways: past participants have enjoyed getting to know their neighbours and strengthening community ties at the same time as saving up to £150 annually on their household bills.
