Hello to Hackney’s Home Energy Saver Scheme
Hackney’s Home Energy Saver Scheme
We are going to be out and about in Hackney until well into 2011. If you see us, please come and say hello. Thanks to Hackney Council, we are here to help everyone save money and energy at home.
Live in Hackney? Get involved
We launched our energy saving project for Hackney in October 2010. Global Action Plan's Edel Fingleton will be working in Hackney, providing guidance and advice to help you save money and energy at home.
Read on to find out how you can take part by following the three steps below:
1. Choose a simple action
You can do your bit by pledging to do a simple energy saving action. You’ll save even more money on your home energy bill and save carbon.
2. Saving begins at home
We are here to help you keep your energy bills to an absolute minimum. Get started by:
Turning your thermostat down. About 21o C should be perfect. You can keep even warmer by closing your curtains, wearing jumpers and socks, wrapping up in a blanket when watching TV and putting a hot water bottle in the bed. Plus set the heating on a timer so that it automatically turns off at night and when you leave the house.
Only boiling the amount of water you are going to use. Boiling too much water wastes lots of energy, which can lead to a significant amount over the course of a year.
Stopping stand-by. There are more and more appliances in our homes, at least one in every room. So save yourself money by turning them off whenever they are not in use.
3. Get in touch.
