Green Accord Success at Edie awards for Exeter City Council and Global Action Plan
Environmental Excellence awards 2009
The Green Accord has won the award for best Local Government Initiative for its easy-to-implement, inclusive environmental accreditation, suitable for all types of organisations and supply chains.
The awards run by leading environmental website edie (environmental data interactive exchange) to celebrate the year's most successful green innovators and environmental breakthroughs.
Judges, including leading environmentalist Jonathon Porritt and sustainability consultant and TV presenter Joanna Yarrow, were impressed by The Green Accord. They described it as well measured, comprehensive and with the potential to roll out more.
The Green Accord in partnership with Global Action Plan allows companies to easily measure their environmental performance using a unique system of on-line self assessment. The Green Accord tool offers long-term efficiency savings, encourages innovation and makes more efficient and effective use of natural resources.

Two South West Building Firms that have already benefited form the Green Accord are Arque and DR Jones. Both have now adopted formal EMS’s which have resulted in substantial environmental and financial savings.
The edie Awards for Environmental Excellence are one of just a handful of schemes with RSA accreditation.
Membership of this exclusive club means winning projects can be put forward for consideration in the European Business Awards for the Environment, to represent the UK’s achievements in progressing the sustainability agenda.
A south-west based media company has achieved environmental management standard ISO14001 using a new toolkit.
