Global Action Plan scoops world's leading green energy prize

Global Action Plan is celebrating having won the Ashden Award for sustainable energy.

The prize is awarded to organizations ‘in recognition of their ground-breaking work in addressing fuel poverty, cutting carbon emissions and making renewable energy more accessible'.

Global Action Plan was recognized for its Environmental Champions programme which trains workplace teams to change their environmental behaviour. To date this programme has reached over 86,000 employees with energy and waste saving messages.

Sir David King, former chief scientific advisor to the government presented the award and said afterwards: "I've had my spirits raised by what I've seen here at the Ashden Awards. Climate Change is the biggest challenge we have ever had to face. We need individual actions like these."

The Ashden Awards is a UK-based charity that works to increase the use of local sustainable energy worldwide. They find, reward, and publicise the work of leading sustainable energy programmes working in the UK and across the developing world.

Global Action Plan is delighted to have the opportunity to offer local authorities a measurable and effective tool to use in the reduction of domestic environmental impacts.

Trewin Restorick, CEO, Global Action Plan said:

"EcoTeams demonstrate that with the right encouragement and support, groups of households are willing to come together to both benefit the environment and to create stronger local communities. EcoTeams can also help households knock £148 off their domestic energy and water bills. Given this wide range of independently proven benefits, Global Action Plan is now seeking to work in partnership with local authorities to extend EcoTeams across the UK."
