Global Action Plan recently audited the Food Show, a corporate and private event caterer based in south London, on managing their carbon footprint and reducing their environmental impacts, thus reducing their day-to-day running costs. We advised and guided the caterer enabling them to set up their own organic recycling system for food waste.

Saving

With our help and advice the Food Show now recycles one tonne of food per month, already saving 12 tonnes of organic matter from going to landfill, and on the cost of landfill collection. The company has also saved nearly 40 tonnes of CO2.

Global Action Plan highlighted the simple changes we could make to reduce our environmental impact. This was particularly true of our organic waste which we now recycle saving tones of waste from landfill and the associated green house gas emissions.

Advice for SMEs

We were able to do this through funding received from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), administered by London Development Agency (LDA) to provide free environmental advice for SMEs across London.

Investment

Over the next five years the ERDF programme will invest over £300m in boosting London’s competitiveness and raising employment. The aim is to help firms boost their trade and to promote greater innovation, joint working and environmental efficiency for London’s SMEs.

The ERDF helps stimulate economic development and regeneration in the least prosperous regions of the European Union (EU) and since 2000, England has received more than £5 billion of ERDF funding.
