What does your role involve?
My role is quite varied, with no one week being the same. I am part of the Special Business team that provides free environmental consultancy to small and medium sized businesses.
This involves enrolling people on the scheme and the courses we run right through to delivering training and carrying out environmental audits for businesses. I also manage our relationship with the ERDF - funders who allow us to provide free support.
What were you doing before Global Action Plan?
Before joining Global Action Plan I briefly worked for an Ecology consultancy before embarking on a Masters in Corporate Environmental Management at the University of Surrey.
As part of my course I was required to carry out an Internship with an environmental organisation and I came to Global Action Plan. A two month internship turned into a full time role and I became a fully fledged member of the team in September 2010.
What do you love about Global Action Plan?
The people; their attitude towards the work Global Action Plan do and towards each other is what makes this place special. It is a creative and inclusive environment.
Top green tip?
Fire up the right side of your brain and come up with innovative ways to re-use otherwise useless items. My favourite is to forgo wrapping paper, instead use newspaper, scraps of material or old clothes. This Christmas I wrapped all my presents in scraps of vintage curtain that I found discarded in the corner of my garage.
What do you typically do on a Sunday morning?
A Sunday morning for me would typically involve a considerable amount of sleep followed by pulling on my wellies for a long country walk with my dog.
Favourite biscuit?
Not being a big biscuit eater I think I’d rather a bag of Malteasers!
