EverGreen in Scotland
EverGreen in Scotland
We are working in the community in Scotland with our charity partner Sky on an exciting and ambitious EverGreen project.
Our aim is to support the residents of Hanover (Scotland) Housing Association by working together to reduce their impact on the environment.
Supported by the National Lottery as well as volunteers from Sky, EverGreen targets areas such as waste, recycling, local food, energy use and transport. We help residents use their years of experience to turn their housing developments into beacons of sustainable development.
Hanover (Scotland) Housing Asssociation caters for over 5,000 residents across Scotland. They are our first EverGreen partner in Scotland.
Through their involvement Hanover will be given support to develop more sustainable practices from the implementation of environmental policies to the development of green office groups.
Global Action Plan will help Hanover's staff, residents and stakeholders to reap the rewards of sustainable business. Whether through increased tenant participation or reduced energy costs, there is something for everyone.
How our charity partner Sky is helping
As Global Action Plan’s charity partner, Sky have been keen to support a project close to their Scottish home. Sky has almost 6,000 employees in Scotland, based in the UK’s first Sky call centres.
EverGreen will help Sky achieve an ambitious target of 2,500 employee volunteering days over the next 12 months. And as part of Sky’s Bigger Picture package, EverGreen will enable staff to develop new skills, build stronger teams and give something back to their community.
Currently the project is working with 10 sheltered housing developments across West Lothian and Fife, with volunteering opportunities arranged for up to 350 staff.
The first projects to get under way have seen the development of a community garden to encourage the growing of local vegetables, the installation of water butts to harvest rainwater, and the organisation of staff training on composting.
