Climate Sqaud so far

Climate Squad is 3300 volunteers, aged 16-25, who are working with schools, businesses and communities in their local areas to tackle climate change.

How did it start?

Global Action Plan has been engaging people in the transition to low carbon lifestyles since 1993. We have been working with young people, in partnership with Bank of America and V inspired, since 2009.

What does Climate Squad do?

Climate Squad helps young people to cut carbon, gain new skills and work towards a sustainable future.

  • Train new community leaders
  • Carbon cutting activities
  • Bring young people together
  • Inspiring lasting, replicable change
  • Equipping young people for transition to low carbon

Successes so far…

Over 3320 volunteers have joined Climate Squad

727 young people have attended our work skills and leadership training, 142 of whom were not in education, employment or training

Since 2009 we have collaborated with over 20 partner organisations such as Fairbridge, NUS and The British Council. We are also represented on the DECC Youth panel.

Operation: Pump It Up is one of our most popular opportunities in which volunteers help people in their community save fuel, money and carbon through pumping their tyres and sharing eco-driving tips.

Pump it Up is an inspiration and a great experience, as well as fun – a great way to make a difference, to benefit the community and make friends.

Greenprint to 2020: bringing together the views of over 1400 young people to create their vision of a sustainable future. This will be launched at an event on 24th February 2011 and presented to businesses and government with a call to act and collaborate.

One volunteer's story

Meet Adam Yasir from Croydon, who joined Climate Squad wanting to reduce carbon in his local community. After attending our Community Leader training, Adam went on to start up his own ‘Green Hope Campaign’ at Croydon College where he is studying. Adam used Global Action Plan’s tried and tested EcoTeams programme to quickly recruit 8 other fellow leaders that have now collectively engaged 13,000 other students.

We come from diverse backgrounds, having individual skills, but we are all united under one aim which is to make Croydon College 'Go Green'.
