Meet Amy Wilson, Head of Business at Global Action Plan.

What does your role involve?

I head up the business team which delivers specialist consultancy to large corporates on how to engage their staff with their sustainability objectives, and achieve their environmental targets through measurable employee led actions.

The team runs inspirational interactive workshops for staff, provides strategic advice for corporate responsibility managers around employee engagement, and mentors Green Teams through internal environmental communications campaigns.

What recent green habit/activity have you recently taken up?

I’ve recently moved house and my new flatmates were keen to join an organic veg box scheme, so every Tuesday we get a lovely box full of organic and local veg delivered direct to our door.  Invariably there is something weird and wonderful in it that we then spend the next week figuring out how to cook!

What have you done that you’re most proud of at Global Action Plan?

We have recently been shortlisted for a Business Charity award for a project I planned and managed that placed employee volunteers into their local schools in Italy, Hungary, and Spain. There they supported the students in running energy awareness and behaviour programmes.

In some countries this has been the first programme of its kind so has not been without its challenges, but we’ve had fantastic feedback from the schools and volunteers about how much they’re enjoying it and learning from it, and to be shortlisted has been the cherry on the cake.

What else do you do to help create a more sustainable world?

I run my local Fairtrade group, which means raising awareness amongst residents, businesses, schools and faith groups in my borough in London.  I am also an ambassador for environmental networking and collaboration site Project Dirt, which helps environmental groups share information and best practice, run their local activities and attract new supporters. It’s a great way to find out what is going on in your local area.

Top green tip?

The Eurostar!  It’s so easy, you just turn up 30 minutes before you need to board - much less faff than at the airport. You get comfy seats, a power socket, great views, hot food and drinks (ok not necessarily Michelin star but not too bad and definitely better than a plane) or take your own, and just 2 hours to Brussels! Visit the Seat61 website for top tips on booking the Eurostar and other European train journeys.
