Alaric Ross-Wagenknecht, Greenprint 2020 volunteer

Alaric Ross-Wagenknecht

Name?

Alaric Ross-Wagenknecht.

What do you do?

I volunteer for Greenprint 2020 and I'm a member of the Greenprint 2020 steering group.

Where did you first hear about Greenprint 2020?

I found Greenprint 2020 whilst looking for voluntary opportunities online. I'd done quite a lot of volunteering and fancied helping with something I was passionate about, and so I applied via email to James Alexander at Global Action Plan.

At the time I joined Greenprint 2020 I wanted to feel and be part of a network of other individuals with similar interests and concerns on environmental matters. I really like the team at Global Action Plan and what they do, I only wish I could do more.

What things have you been involved with at Greenprint 2020/Global Action Plan?

I've attended a few events with other members of Greenprint 2020, including a debrief from Ed Miliband after COP15; a recent eco-festival in London; and helped to present the Greenprint 2020 view to the funders of what we'd like to do in the future.

Originally I was part of the Climate Squad steering group to offer my views on projects and the direction of the project in general. However, recently I've been inspired to setup a 'low-carbon garden' at work that is both community-focused and voluntary. We have 15 members, who all help out at lunchtimes. Ninety-five per cent of our equipment is second-hand, and we even have a sustainable water supply (water butt).

What do you love about Greenprint 2020/Global Action Plan?

The best thing about Greenprint 2020 and Global Action Plan are the opportunities for young people, to meet other like-minded individuals and to be involved with unique projects. I love the fact that Global Action Plan 'practise what they preach'. The organisation is very approachable and everyone is super-friendly.

Top green tip?

My best eco-tips are don't go shopping if you're hungry (you waste less this way), and support sustainable local food sources (eggs are always cheaper and nicer at farm shops).

Best energy saving tip?

Find out what will make the biggest impact on your life and tackle that, so you don't waste time (and energy) on things that won't make a difference.

What do you typically do on a Sunday morning?

A nice lie-in, proper home-cooked English breakfast (mum's is best), Sunday paper, cup of tea, and surrounded by family, old before my time!

Favourite biscuit?

Plain and simple hobnobs, no doubt!
